Event Description

Registration is now open for the 4S 2023 meeting. Early registration closes July 14th. If you are part of the conference program, please use the presenter registration, and if not, please use the non-presenter registration options. Fees are organized around categories of fully employed and students/precariously employed/financially insecure, and then by region for equity purposes. Please use your own discretion on selecting this rate. We invite Kamaʻāina to use the lower rate to increase accessibility. If you would like to discuss your financial situation, please contact meeting@4sonline.org.

Fees are differentiated for members and non-members. Payment must be made by credit card, and transactions are in US dollars.

Please select your registration package type (based on your professional status) and the appropriate status and region (X or Y) to arrive at your fee. If you are in the program in any role or have participated in 4S in the last five years, you probably already have an account. If you are unsure, try recovering a password.

This year's banquet will be hosted at the Hawai'i Convention Center. In line with 4S efforts to have our conference help local communities, we have asked the HCC to provide foods from local farms, including kalo farms. HCC will also provide a variety of local dishes from Hawai’i’s diverse communities. There will be a 3-course menu including vegetarian options, and a non-alcoholic/alcoholic drink. We will post more details about the menu and style of banquet in the next month, and will launch a form for information on any special dietary requirements in August. We look forward to sharing local foods as we come together to meet old friends and make new ones. The banquet will take place the evening of Friday, November 10.

General Registration

The 4S 2023 conference will primarily be an in-person meeting with the ability to participate remotely. If you are on the conference program as a presenter, discussant, organizer, or chair, you must register in order to participate.

Registration Fees System

Similar to 2021 and 2022, this year's registration system is equity based. The sliding scale of registration fees is based on professional status and region of work affiliation.

Our registration uses a sliding scale based on affordability in terms of both employment/status and regional economic differences. The money raised during the 4S meeting not only supports the costs of the conference itself, but also all the annual business of 4S. This registration model is designed so that professors and other fully employed professionals make the largest contribution towards supporting 4S. We have endeavored to keep registration low for most participants to support participation across regions and employment statuses.

Please select the appropriate registration fee according to your Professional Status and the regional location of your work affiliation. The two regional categories are based on relative currency/economic strength of countries compared to USD.

Fee Matrix

In-person day-rates of $20USD (students)/$40USD (postdocs) /$60USD (professors) will be available for registration on site (via cash payments), and are also available via purchase through this portal on and after 7th November 2023.


Early registration is the lowest cost — so we encourage everyone to register before the early registration deadline of July 14.

Member discounts for 4S members are also in effect:

  • Be sure to log-in with the same account that you used to submit your paper or otherwise interact with the program/submissions system.
  • If you are not offered the member rates after you log-in, you may elect to join 4S before registering.

Non-Presenter Audience Registration

An In-Person day rate will be available on site during the conference. Please refer to the details given above. 

Cancellation Policy

Through July and August, cancellation requests will be honored with a full refund. During September, cancellations will be honored with a 50% refund. Any cancellations after September 30th will not be refunded. If you cancel your registration at any point, please notify the Conference Team [meeting@4sonline.org], and (if known) your session chair.
